As a recent addition to the EOSEL Lab, my graduate research will analyze the influences of ecotourism on grizzly bear behaviour and multi-species occupancy. My research is focused around Chilko Lake in the Chilcotin Range of the Coastal Mountains. In my MSc, I will collaborate with the Tŝilhqot’in National Government, the Tŝilhqot’in people, and the BC Ministry of Forests.
This opportunity to study grizzly bears has enabled me to apply the passion that I have for wildlife in a way that furthers the field of wildlife and habitat management. My passion for wildlife and ecology stems from my enthusiasm towards the beauty of natural environments, leading towards a goal to protect, conserve, and be a steward for vulnerable ecosystems and species.
When I am not in the field setting up or checking remote camera traps or in the lab conducting data entry and analysis, you’ll probably find me hiking, skiing, climbing, or biking. I love the accomplishment associated with these activities, but more so, I appreciate the ability they have in connecting me with the natural environment I interact with and help me remember the importance of my role in being a steward for the natural areas I love.
